Peters Construction Corporation is seeking a Mechanic – Commercial Construction. This is a Full Time Hourly position. This position is eligible for benefits including health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), short- and long-term disability and paid time off.
The Mechanic is required to be able to work on a wide variety of construction equipment including skid loaders, telehandlers, boom lifts, cranes, scissor lifts and other tools/equipment of all sizes. Additionally, this position will work on company vehicles including trucks, SUV’s, dump trucks, and other similar vehicles. Work will include trouble shooting and repairing vehicles and equipment as well as preventative maintenance. Work may be performed at the Peters Construction shop located in Waterloo or on job sites, typically in the Cedar Valley, depending on the situation. Personal safe working practices and a focus on maintaining safe equipment, tools, and vehicles are essential parts of the Mechanic’s job as well.
The Mechanic must be able to solve problems efficiently and effectively, work with limited supervision, be willing to work both on their own or with others depending on the task required, and manage multiple competing priorities. This position will report directly to the General Superintendent, but will work closely with a wide variety of Peters Construction Project Managers, Superintendents, and other employees.

Job Responsibilities
This position’s main responsibilities will include equipment, tools, and vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Essential Functions
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair wide variety of construction equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Provide own tools of trade. Specialty tools and mechanics truck to be provided.
- Work with outside vendors to secure parts, supplies, and repair services as needed.
- Work safely and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Travel to jobsites.
- Maintain and update repair and maintenance logs.
- Assist in other areas of the company as needed.
Skills
- Diesel engine and equipment repair.
- Dependable.
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Solve problems as they arise and research answers to problems unsure of how to handle.
- Work with technology, including diagnostic tools, basic computer usage and smart phone.
- Class A CDL preferred and willingness to obtain a Class A CDL if currently to not have one.
- Work well with others.
- Detail focus and follow through.
- Manage time and competing priorities.
- Solve problems calmly and collaboratively.
- Willingness to receive and give constructive performance feedback.
Education and Experience
- Experience as construction Mechanic preferred.
- Training as Diesel Mechanic or similar training preferred.
- Experience in the construction industry would be beneficial.
Travel
The employee will travel to a variety of sites and locations using company provided mechanic truck and must have a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment
This role will work in a wide variety of environments both inside and outside all year long.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally be asked to lift heavy objects and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The position requires good manual dexterity and coordination.
Job Expectations
This is a full-time position which will involve approximately 40-50 hours a week on average depending on workload and time of year. Generally, this is a Monday through Friday position, but occasionally, additional hours on Saturday may be request or required. Employee is expected to start and end his day at the office location.
